Grace's CC v Washington CC
17 September 2006

In beautiful late summer sun, Grace's entertained Washington CC in their penultimate match of the season. However, due to the late arrival of the opposition the match was reduced to 32 overs a side. Grace's on winning the toss elected to bat, and soon lost opener Henderson for 1. Then Hope and skipper Stockinger took charge adding 87 for the second wicket, with Hope hitting 5 fours and 2 sixes in his 40 and Stockinger 7 fours and one six before being third out for 60 with the score on 124. Charles and Mendis continued the attack, Charles making his best score for the club of 45, while Mendis top-scored with 66 including 3 sixes and 7 fours. Grace's ended up with 259-6.

Some typically mean bowling by Shofiq and Akhter all but put the game out of reach for Washington. This allowed some of the Grace's part-time bowlers to show their paces, enabling the visitors to make a fine attempt at reaching a target that required a run rate of eight an over. However although the final winning margin of 17 runs may appear close, the victory for Grace's was never in doubt.
