Winsley CC v Grace's CC
10 September 2006

The celebrations from Saturday continued late into the night and it was a slightly bleary group that managed breakfast the following morning. However with one win under their belt, what could go wrong against their old rivals Winsley, whom they had beaten on the last two visits?

Well, quite a lot. Batting first wickets fell at an alarming rate. In just over an hour Grace's found themselves 87-6 with only Mendis (27 off 16 balls) showing much resistance. But then Ahkter joined Shofiq, the latter taking the fight to the opposition with a fine innings of 88, whilst the former played with great care during their stand of 90, allowing Grace's to total 192-9 from their 40 overs.

With a weakened bowling line-up, Grace's faced a near-impossible task of containing the Winsley batsmen, who got off to a fine start with a first-wicket partnership of 60. Again Ahkter was the pick of the bowlers with 3 for 25 from his 8 overs. However despite two fine stumpings by keeper Stockinger and well though the makeshift bowling attack performed, they couldn't stop Winsley from reaching their target for the loss of only six wickets, thus ending a fine run of six victories. After a final celebratory drink with our hosts, all agreed that two great games had been played in a fine spirit and all had enjoyed a great weekend in wonderful weather and fantastic surroundings.
