Caterham CC 4th XI v Grace's CC
8 July 2006

Grace's were entertained to a Gay Day by their hosts Caterham CC, who turned out in pink shirts while rainbow flags flew from a specially erected awning. The match had been advertised in the town as a "Gay Day" but the local council insisted that the banners and posters were removed after complaints were received!

The match itself was a very high scoring game. On winning the toss Grace's chose to bat. The home side decided on one long drinks interval, from start to finish, and many cans of the amber liquid were consumed during the afternoon, with Grace's ensuring that they kept pace. In the meantime Mendis played a magnificent innings, scoring yet another hundred and helped by Stockinger Grace's passed 230 in their 40 overs. Caterham maintained the required run rate and despite losing six wickets achieved their target in the final over.

In the evening Caterham laid on a barbecue and disco with a Hawaiian theme in which players and supporters all entered the spirit of the occasion. What a great event from a "straight" club.
