Wandgas CC v Grace's CC, 21 August 2005

On another hot and sunny day, Shofiq lost the toss (again) and Wandgas batted, scoring exactly 200 runs with their Sri Lankan star batsman impressively hitting a fine 80 before being run out.

Making his debut for Grace's was Healey, a fine Australian bowler who was playing very senior cricket. His bowling was super fast and deadly accurate, going for only 12 runs in 7 overs. Shofiq took on wicket-keeping duties and once Rishafi had completed his stint of 3 wickets for 23 runs from 5 overs, Shofiq swapped his gloves to bowl his 8 overs for 18 runs.

In reply, Grace's relied upon Shofiq and Mendis (40 and 17), but our batting never really got going and we were all out for 160 in 35 overs, never really getting to grips with the terrific spin bowling of Coltham. Upon reflection, the skipper agreed there were things we would have done differently, but Wandgas were a fine fine side and deserved their win. Apparently next year they won’t have any Sri Lankan players? Well done to Healey on his debut. It’s a shame it was only for one game, but if he is ever in the country again, please, please, please, make sure you visit us once more and you will be made welcome again. In the end, Grace's lost by 40 runs.
