Sporting Alfas CC 2nd XI v Grace's CC, 2 May 2004

After Grace's poor performance against Sporting Alfas 1st XI, we had to recover fast to earn any semblance of respect. Everyone had to be focused and ready. Shofiq lost the toss (no surprise there), and Alfas 2nd XI batted first, posting 238–5 from 40 overs. Highlights were from the 14-year-old wicket-keeper Morgan who smashed 80 runs, hitting six glorious sixes and a bucket full of fours, taking a liking to Silva's spin. With a further 57 from Kinnear and 40 runs from Taylor, Grace's were made to toil.

In reply, Grace's set off in style, with Swinburne (46) and Stockinger (26) scoring almost five an over in the first 10 overs. Bielby then stayed with Swinburne until the 20th over, taking the score past 100. With 140 required from the next 20 overs, it was going to be close. Rishafi upped the ante and smashed a quick 43, Camberwell belted 12 in 12 balls, whilst the captain Shofiq cracked 76 not out to steer Grace's home to win with four overs to spare and their first win of the season. A splendid end to the tour, everyone was now on a high, a deserved win, although the opposition could not quite believe it. It was time to enjoy the night life of Spain feeling much better.
